Nothing is harder to write than your own misguided attempts at research, especially when you know that the article you're writing is scheduled to be presented at a conference.
But it also serves as a valuable lesson learned. I don't want to look bad even if I am just learning something new, so I'm more motivated to do research right the first time. It's bad enough to know that I did a poor job, but showing off my poor work does have much appeal. If it wasn't so necessary for me to go to the conference in order to meet people and inquire about jobs, I probably won't submit this paper.
Yet this realization can serve as a launching point for conversation with other professors. Hopefully, something will come of it.
